Kahmann Sense

I hope everyone is enjoying the last few weeks of summer. ( School starts this coming Wednesday and I’m excited to see the students and hear about all of the fun things they did over the summer. The first few weeks of school are always filled with a lot of energy and enthusiasm as the kids reconnect with their friends. Please keep our students in your prayers, especially our little ones, as they embark on what’s going to be a GREAT school year!!

Next Saturday, August 22 is the Feast of the Queenship of Mary – and since the name of our parish is Mary, Queen of Heaven, this feast day is a big deal!! Pope Pius XII instituted the Queenship of Mary in 1954 and on this feast we celebrate that Mary is the Queen of Heaven and Earth. Pope Pius IX said of Mary's Queenship: "Turning her maternal Heart toward us and dealing with the affair of our salvation, she is concerned with the whole human race. Constituted by the Lord Queen of Heaven and earth, and exalted above all choirs of Angels and the ranks of Saints in Heaven, standing at the right hand of Her only-begotten Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, she petitions most powerfully with Her maternal prayers, and she obtains what she seeks."

As a way to celebrate our patroness feast day we’re gonna have a BIG party!!! The party will be next Sunday, August 23, from 4-7pm. It’ll be held on the front lawn in front of the school – there’ll be a big tent with tables and chairs set up – you won’t be able to miss it!! In addition to celebrating our patroness feast day, the party is also going to be a welcoming party for Deacon Larry Kleisinger – so come on out and get a little face-time with our new Deacon!!

Be sure to bring the youngsters/little ones as there will be plenty of games and things for them to do – it’ll be a great way to kick-off the school year!! The parish will provide the burgers, hot dogs, metts, etc. and all of the drinks – you-all can provide the side dishes and desserts. I look forward to seeing everyone there – let’s party!!! Mary, Queen of Heaven, pray for us!!

In a couple weeks our very own Joe Rielage will be heading off to seminary. Seminary is the perfect place to figure out if the Lord is calling you to be a priest. The daily routine of Mass and prayer helps immensely when discerning the priesthood. Going to seminary will be a big change in Joe’s life but, as I’ve told him many times, he’ll do great!!! Please keep Joe in your prayers as he begins seminary studies.

A great big “Thank You” to Mary Rogers for providing the funds to replace the kneeler coverings in church - they look great!! Also a big shout-out of thanks to the crew (you know who you are) who took the old coverings off and put the new ones on – we had a lot of fun doing it!!  With a month and a half to go, the Reds are limping towards the end of the season. I’m glad they didn’t completely blow up the team through trades. With the couple of trades they did make, they’re stockpiling a lot of good pitching prospects. I suspect some of that pitching will be traded in the off-season to get some much needed hitting. It’ll be an interesting off-season – I have hope that they’ll be in the hunt for a playoff spot next year!!

Peace & grace, Fr. Kevin.
